One unit (loaf) of bread is produced in the bakery using two units (sheafs) of wheat in ten minutes by one laborer. (6 per hour)

Bread is:

• Consumed by laborers and military at the rate of one per hour.
• Consumed at the rate of two per hour, during especially arduous tasks as when soldiers are traveling or laborers are building ships. (Ships take 25 bread and 25 cedar to build, while soldiers need an up-front bread payment of 2 per hour traveled to send them to other cities/monuments)
• The unit of currency in the market.
• Used in the founding of new cities.

Bread is often used as a benchmark to calculate the relative cost of other products, derived from the opportunity cost of making bread per laborer per hour (1.4). See the labor theory of value.

This bread-centric paradigm has given rise to a number of acronyms and phrases such as: "B.R.E.A.M." (Bread Rules Everything Around Me) and "Get the leaven; loaf a, loaf a bread, y'all."
